City of Logan on show at the Ekka

Published: 02 Aug 2016

Council has once again partnered with a variety of local growers and producers to highlight the city's wide selection of fresh produce at this year's Ekka.

City Image Chairperson, Councillor Laurie Smith, said local growers were putting a new twist on popular foods, adding a new chapter to the city’s rich agricultural history.

"Our farming and production history stretches back more than 150 years and you can still see evidence of that history at places like the Beenleigh Rum Distillery, Australia’s oldest continually operating distillery,” he said.

“In recent years, we have had a new wave of growers and producers sprout up in Logan that are adding to that history with top quality fresh food and produce that is being exported across Australia and around the world.

"By teaming up with our growers and food businesses at the Ekka, we can highlight the diversity of our region and the important part that agriculture plays in Logan's $19 billion economy."

Each day at the Ekka local product and producers will feature at the City of Logan stand including The Spice Exchange, Riverview Herbs, Kenon Mushrooms and Carcamos Gourmet Caramel Apples.

The City of Logan growers stand will be located in the Agricultural Pavilion.

A show bag valued at $50 including a gourmet caramel apple, mushroom kit, recipe book, punnet of strawberries, eco-herb pot and more, will be available for purchase for $20 from the stand.

The Ekka runs from Friday 5 August until Sunday 14 August.
