Jazz and Shiraz a great success

The wet weather did not dampen the mood at Saturday’s Jazz and Shiraz event at the LEC.
More than 550 people turned out to see acclaimed jazz singer Grace Knight from the Eurogliders, David De Vito, Scat, Renae Suttie, Laura Mitchell and Mal Wood and Friends.
Despite a venue change because of wet weather forecasts, there was a great atmosphere inside the LEC with ticket holders encouraged to bring along a picnic to enjoy with family and friends.
Mayor Pam Parker said the crowd had a great time despite wet weather forcing the event indoors.
“With wet weather for days leading up to this year’s Jazz and Shiraz, it was deemed too dangerous for both ticket holders and performers to keep the event outside,” she said.
“Moving the event ahead of time meant that people could enjoy the event without worrying about sitting outside in the rain.”
Assistant Chairperson of the Governance, Finance and Economic Development Committee, Councillor Steve Swenson (Division 3) said having Aria-nominated Grace Knight perform in Logan was a real coup for the city.
“Hundreds of people turned out to enjoy some of the best soul, swing and funk performers at the LEC, while tasting some gourmet food and wine from local businesses,” he said.
“Jazz and Shiraz is one of Logan City Council’s most popular annual events and we look forward to making it even bigger and better next year.”
Cr Swenson thanked the gourmet food providers and local wineries that took part – Focus by James, The Fire Inside, Pancake and Wafflery, Sirromet Wines, Cedar Creek Estate Wines and The Rich Pour.
