20th birthday bash paints Logan red, blue and yellow

From sculpture, to works on canvas and paper, and beyond, the Logan Art Gallery has hosted countless exhibitions from local, national and international artists since its founding in 1995.

Now, four local legends – volunteers and artists Esther Austin, Erik Berg, Lola Irvine and Reginald Knox– are being honoured for their significant contribution to the gallery as part of the 20 year anniversary celebrations.

Mayor Pam Parker will officially launch the Our Legends exhibition on Friday 20 Janaury at a gala event featuring major works from all four artists, and said the gallery had played a crucial role in supporting and developing Logan's art scene.

"Arts and culture have always played a strong role in our society, from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artworks through to cutting-edge contemporary pieces by our city's young people," she said.

"I'm delighted to be able to honour four true legends who have made outstanding contributions to both the gallery as an institution, and in developing our arts community in the city.

"I would strongly encourage anyone with an interest in learning about our artistic heritage to make sure they make time to visit the gallery."

As part of the 20 year milestone celebrations for the Logan Art Gallery two additional exhibitions will also be on display.

"Alongside Our Legends, there are feature exhibitions of emerging and established local artists, arts community workshops, a birthday bash and music in the gallery," said Mayor Parker.

"Keep an eye on our website for more great activities throughout the month, and make sure to visit the gallery."
All four artists displayed in the Our Legends exhibition have given something different: portraits of our growing city, evocative landscapes capturing the mystique of the bush, historical snapshots and studies in light and form, and the city's floral emblem of a Banksia.
Our Legends along with the Our Benefactors and Vision 20/20 exhibitions are now open to the public.

The Logan Art Gallery is open 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday, and is located on the corner of Wembley Rd and Jacaranda Ave, Logan Central. Entry is free.
