Logan’s Musical Celebration preparation gets underway
Multi-instrumentalist/performer Shenzo will meet with local talent interested in taking part in Logan's Musical Celebration.

Queensland’s Music Festival (QMF) is on its way to Logan to start planning for the biggest community musical production the city has ever seen.

Local music sign-on sessions will be held next week to uncover talent in Logan City to allow QMF, spearheaded by renowned jazz musician James Morrison, to start preparing ‘Logan’s Musical Celebration’ to be held mid-2015.

Sydney-based hip-hop star Morganics and multi-instrumentalist/performer Shenzo will meet with local talent interested in taking part in the production.

Mayor Pam Parker said the sign-on was the perfect opportunity to show off Logan’s musical talent and individuals, groups, musicians and dancers were all invited to take part.

“Logan City has a proud history of producing talented singers, musicians and dancers, who have gone on to great success,” she said.

“Savage Garden, superstar Dami Im, dancer Gavin Skinner who has performed alongside Katy Perry and Maroon 5 as well as Kate Maree Hoolihan, who starred in the worldwide musical hit, We Will Rock You, are all former Logan residents who have made a name for themselves through their talent.

“I encourage everyone to come along and get involved in the sign-on sessions – this is your chance to be part of the biggest and best musical production to be staged in Logan City.”

Queensland Music Festival Artistic Director James Morrison said he was excited to explore the wealth of local musical talent in the area.

“We don’t want any talent in Logan to go unrecognised – so if you play the Caribbean steel drums, sing German folk music or any other wonderful form of music – we want you!,” Morrison said.

Logan’s Musical Celebration addresses a priority of the Logan: City of Choice Action Plan – to bring people together to share and enjoy cultural diversity and provide opportunities for community arts and cultural expression.

Establishing a signature event that is community owned and driven and encompasses different elements including music, food and dance, was a key action from the Logan: City of Choice Summit.

Open audit sessions will be held from 5pm at the LEC on Wembley Rd, Logan Central.

There will be further opportunities to become involved in the project in coming months.
